Meet Clarissa

Clarissa Smith, Ph.D., MA, OTR/L, is known as “The Caregiving Doctor.” She has been a practicing licensed occupational therapist for over 33 years in nursing homes, home health, and assisted living facilities. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds a post-doctoral Master’s Degree in Religious Studies from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Smith is a sought-out speaker, trainer, and workshop leader in aging parent and family caregiving challenges today. Dr. Smith is a radio show host of, “The Caregiving Doctor Show,” educating millions of family caregivers every week. She has interviewed actors, comedians, politicians, educators, authors, pastors, musicians, nonprofit organizations, physicians, and more. She is a national columnist and has published over 250 articles in geriatrics in Advance Magazine. She’s a regular contributor to caregiving websites nationwide.

Dr. Smith is CEO of Caregiving Kids Academy, an intergenerational child care center and the author of The Caregiving Kids Series and 15 family caregiving booklets. She is also the author of No Biting Noah, The Children’s Guide to Elderly Abuse, Sofia Surprises Auntie in the Nursing Home, and The Ten Commandments of Family Caregiving.

Clarissa has three children, Destiny, Karnell, and Karnie Jr., and resides in Birmingham, Alabama.
